Posting data in Excel
So....I have come to the conclusion that I know very little about using an excel spreadsheet. I am happy for Sue S.'s help in figuring out how to get my pre and post data results for my control and experimental groups into a readable chart for last weeks assignment. I was asked to change the color of my charts...which I was a little nervous about doing but I figured it out! Yay! I am slowly learning how to use excel, but I think I have a long way to go!
I decided to change my grading rubric for my pre and post assessments so this particular weeks assignment took me a really long time to do! I re-listened/re-graded using the new rubric, all 70 pre-assessment activities. Each was about a minute long, then needed to be graded with the new rubric (which is easier to use for this level) and recorded into the excel spreadsheets for the control and experimental groups. Then I had to listen to and re-grade my post-assessments for the control and experimental groups...this also took about a minute to listen to each recorded assessment, grading and recording the data into the excel spreadsheets. Over all the pre and post re-grading, scoring and recording of data took me about 6-7 hours (this time includes my fighting with excel time!). In the end, I feel that the new rubric will give me a better idea of how the pronunciation of the students began and improved over the course of the interventions or lack there of (for the control group).

Getting all the interventions together!
I actually had a fun time compiling all of my interventions to turn in for this week...In my mind I went through step by step/day by day to make sure that I didn't leave anything out...then came the trouble spot. Some of my intervention tools are in PowerPoint, others are on Youtube.com and others are from handouts in class, so I had to figure out a way to compile all of these different formats in an easy to read format which ended up including screen shots of the PowerPoints, links for the videos and copies of the handouts for class. I also decided that I should have a live format of my documents so I ended up making a quick website and uploaded all of my intervention tools there as well. It took me quite a few hours to make everything user friendly but I think that I am getting it together!

Samples Preview
Ok, here is my little problem that had to be overcome: for my pre-instruction pronunciation assessment I had the students use google voice and send me a voicemail message reciting a pre-scripted dialogue in Spanish (using very similar vocabulary to what the students will be preparing on their own for a final pronunciation evaluation) the problem is that I had to have the students tell me who they were in order to record their grade, so their first and last name was in each dialogue voicemail! This wouldn't do so what I had to to was think of a work around and I decided to record the voicemail messages one by one in audacity and then go back and edit out the name of each student. Well, it was time consuming but it worked! Then Amy let me know that a wav file was going to be way to big to put in my paper so now I am going to have a new step...uploading each pre-instruction sample to a podcast, that way I have a smaller file and a live sample, ready to go!
It's Almost Graduation Time!!!
Well, here we are again! I am just amazed that we are so very close to finishing our MAIT degree!!! I'm getting really excited, (I have to admit) and am looking forward to having my degree. I started going back to college (I had had my as. degree) after my daughter was born...I began thinking that I needed to be a strong female role model for her and by not having a higher level college education I didn't think that I was meeting the mark. I felt like someone she could look up to when I earned my Bachelors degree, but I knew that I would always want to continue my education in the future so...fast forward to now and, well...I am doing it! This degree program and timing was just perfect for me, I have Teia here at Southern with me and this program has just been so enjoyable and convenient, I don't think this experience could have been any better for me or for her (since she has had to come to many of the classes!) WOW!
